THF Park will be a world-class, one-of-a-kind health and wellness park for our region. The park will be open for various recreational activities and includes jogging and biking trails, sports complexes and special programs for all ages.
Plans for the site also include four multi-use playing fields that can be used for football, soccer or other activities. Other amenities include a spray pad, sand volleyball courts, two playgrounds and more than two miles of hiking and biking trails.
These trails will later attach to more than 10 miles of trail expected to be developed elsewhere in Gateway Village. In the future, this trail system could be attached to the proposed Katy Trail, which would extend between Sherman and Denison.
The project will bring the city together in partnership with the Texoma Health Foundation and Tom Johnson, developer, and owner of Gateway Village. Under the partnership, THF is assisting the project by offering the city a $7.9 million grant and Gateway Village has donated 65 acres of land, valued at $1 million, and $2 million for site and infrastructure improvements. The final $3 million is being paid for by the City of Denison.
